Soil Science for
Serious Growers
Premium growing media for Professional Growers and Serious Plant People.

Built for Growers. Proven in Production.
Grounded Soil Co.™ is a line of high-performance growing media developed by scientists at the University of California, Davis. Each blend is engineered to deliver reliable water retention, nutrient efficiency, and structural consistency—validated through production trials with ornamental and edible crops.
Rooted in sustainability. Backed by research. Designed for growers who expect more.

Two Blends. Designed Around What Matters to Growers.
We developed our first two blends in close collaboration with commercial nurseries, testing them head-to-head against the media they were already using. Across multiple trials, our blends consistently outperformed in root development, growth rate, canopy quality, and overall plant vigor.
Just as importantly, they were designed to fit directly into existing workflows. No special equipment, no retraining, no disruption. These are high-performance substrates made for real production conditions, with reliability and consistency at their core.
Whether you're growing leafy greens, ornamentals, or flowering crops, Grounded Soil Co. delivers dependable
results where it counts—
at the root zone.
Peat-Free Blend
A fully peat-free mix designed for sustainability without sacrificing structure or water retention. Ideal for leafy greens, herbs, and ornamentals in container systems.
High-Performance Blend
Includes a small percentage of peat for crops that demand maximum vigor, root mass, and responsiveness. Trusted by trial partners for roses, flowering plants, and intensive production systems.
Tested in commercial production.
Trusted by growers.

what matters
Where it Started
During the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chains broke down, and so did our access to essential growing materials like coconut coir and peat moss. In the middle of greenhouse trials, we suddenly couldn’t source the media we depended on.
That disruption pushed us to ask a different question: what materials already exist in abundance right here in California and the western U.S. that could support growers?
Looking Local
We turned our attention to regional agricultural byproducts—produced in large volume, with limited end uses and growing stockpiles. These underutilized resources represented a clear opportunity to support more circular and resilient agricultural systems.
Refined in Production
Through greenhouse testing and collaboration with commercial nurseries, we developed blends that consistently outperformed conventional media; delivering better root development, water retention, and canopy growth. Just as importantly, we designed these blends to integrate into existing production systems. Grounded Soil Co.™ blends fit into the way growers already work, with little to no disruption and no need to reinvent workflows.
Our soil Is grounded in innovation and the promise of a more sustainable future.
“Every blend we developed was part of a loop. What we learned in the greenhouse at UC Davis informed what we tested at scale in the nursery, and what we saw in the nursery came back to refine the next trial with increased scientific rigor. It wasn’t a one-way process. It was iterative, responsive, and grounded in both science and production.”
Two Blends.
Built for Real-World Growing.
We’re launching with two high-performance blends—each developed through rigorous greenhouse testing, refined in collaboration with commercial nurseries, and built to deliver consistent results under real production conditions. One is designed for growers prioritizing sustainability and structural longevity. The other, for crops that benefit from the targeted inclusion of peat for optimized growth. Both blends are designed to integrate smoothly into professional workflows with minimal disruption.
Peat-Free
Blend
A peat-free and perlite-free formulation developed for professional growers seeking a more sustainable and structurally reliable alternative. Engineered for leafy greens, herbs, ornamentals, and long-cycle crops, this blend is proven to hold its shape and volume throughout extended production cycles.
Unlike conventional media that compact or float apart over time, this blend maintains its physical integrity—minimizing shrinkage, preventing media loss, and eliminating the need for topping off pots during long-term growth or display. It consistently outperforms traditional peat mixes in water-holding capacity, structure, and display longevity.
Formulated with regionally sourced materials, this blend helps reduce transportation impacts while supporting a more localized, resource-conscious supply chain. It fits into existing production systems with minimal disruption—delivering lasting structure, moisture management, and peace of mind for growers focused on long-term performance.
High-Performance Blend
A carefully engineered blend that includes a modest amount of peat—used only where its inclusion has demonstrated clear benefits through targeted production trials. Developed for a range of flowering ornamentals and other crops that benefit from the targeted inclusion of peat in the formulation, this mix delivers strong rooting, consistent growth, and reliable results under professional nursery conditions.
The High-Performance Blend is intended for growers who require precision, consistency, and compatibility with existing systems. It has been field-tested and refined to meet commercial standards without disrupting workflow or increasing complexity.
